Open Sundays & Mondays

No surprise Sunday or Monday closure. We're here.

Weekend lunch from 1 PM

Daylight, the same kitchen, a slower pace.

Two minutes from the museums

Picasso in the morning, lunch by half past one.

Sunday lunch in the old town, from 1 PM

Not a roast — but a slow-cooked beef ragú and a crispy pork belly do the same job rather well. Sunday lunch in Málaga's old town, in daylight, with no rush to leave.

Sunday and Monday closures are the norm here. We don't — so a wrong-day craving isn't a problem.

The weekend plan: a museum, a wander and a table waiting

The best weekend lunches aren't planned to the minute. But it helps to know the table's there when you're ready.

Spend the morning at the Picasso Museum or up at the Alcazaba, wander the old town, and roll into Echegaray for lunch from 1 PM. Same kitchen as the evening — the octopus, the tartare, the pork belly — just in daylight, at a weekend pace. Finish with the chocolate cake and you've earned the afternoon off.

Eating in Málaga at the weekend: questions we get asked

What guests ask us most about weekend lunch.

1-5
Are you really open on Sunday?
Yes. Mestiza Gastrobar, at Calle Echegaray 3 in Málaga's old town, opens every Sunday — lunch from 1 PM and dinner from 6:30. That's a real advantage in the old town, where many restaurants close on Sundays or Mondays.
Do you do a traditional Sunday roast? +
No — Mestiza Gastrobar, in Málaga's old town, doesn't do a roast, but the slow-cooked beef ragú and crispy pork belly scratch a similar itch. We open for Sunday lunch from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, two minutes from the Picasso Museum.
Is the lunch menu the same as dinner? +
Yes. At Mestiza Gastrobar, in Málaga's old town, weekend lunch is the same short menu as the evening, bought fresh that day. The room's just brighter at lunch. We're at Calle Echegaray 3, open Saturdays and Sundays 1:00 to 5:00 PM.
Where can I have Saturday lunch in the old town? +
Mestiza Gastrobar, at Calle Echegaray 3 in Málaga's old town, opens for Saturday lunch from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. It's ideal after the Picasso Museum or the Alcazaba, both two minutes' walk away, with the same author's-cooking menu as the evening.
